Rear Deck Water Feature

When the rear deck was built, I planned for a water feature against the concrete wall adjoining the rear entrance. Well, It’s finally a reality, and what a difference it’s made to the deck area. What was a 400mm x 3M gap between the wall and the deck is now a long, shallow, narrow pond, featuring a helical fountain, pebble base and two pots, to be filled with suitable plants by Susan.

I’d been looking for a nice fountain to display in the water feature, and was considering one of those “ribbon” cascade thingies. But then Susan asked me to check out a Helix water feature she’d seen in target. I had a look, and it was the exact same unit I’d had my eyes on at Bunnings whorehouse - only at less that half the Bunnings price! To sweeten the deal even more, I got the floor unit, without box, for a further discount - I paid only $58, compared to Bunning’s $399!

The project began with a small rock-face block wall, between deck and wall, from deck level to the ground. Next came the timber frame work, built between the deck and the wall, approx 100mm below the floor level. Next I used tough plastic pond liner to provide a waterproof base, into which I cut some small LED lights. Finally Pebbles, tiles, the helix water feature and a circulating pump finished off the job.
